#4 - Texas Donor Buys Big 'Ol Pipeline From Christy Clark

Next in the BC Liberals' Dirty Dozen Donations series

Christy Clark has been talking a good game lately about standing up to the nasty Americans, but that would appear to be a death bed conversion.

After all, she’s been taking heaps of money from American corporations for years to help them get their way in BC, including Trump Tower in Vancouver and U.S. timber giant Weyerhaeuser (which happens to be pushing for duties on BC lumber).

Before she was making a play of standing up to nasty Americans, Clark was making a play of standing up to Ottawa and plans to massively expand tanker traffic in Vancouver with the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

Kinder Morgan is a Texas pipeline company, founded by the former COO of Enron.

Clark made a public show of putting up “5 conditions” for BC’s approval of the pipeline, and then caved on all of them.

Perhaps this was because behind the scenes she was accepting $771,168 in donations from Kinder Morgan. That kind of money buys a lot of flexibility on “conditions.”

All major BC political parties other than the BC Liberals have pledged to ban corporate, union, and foreign donations and to limit individual donations. Vote for change on May 9.
