South Shore--St. Margaret's
Only 60.2 percent voter turnout in this riding in 2008.
Riding Projections
CandidatesThe incumbent Conservative won by fewer than 1,000 votes in 2008. Both the NDP and Liberal challengers are former Members of Parliament. Derek Wells represented this riding from 1993-97, while Gordon Earle represented the neighbouring riding of Halifax West and has run three times in South Shore-St. Margaret's. This is a classic case where vote-splitting has and could again elect a Conservative. Looking at it today it appears the NDP candidate has the best shot of defeating the Conservative incumbent, eliminating a seat from Harper's quest for a majority. We strongly recommend supporting NDP Gordon Earl.
About the Riding Predictions
The riding predictions you see on Project Democracy are based on a model that uses the 2008 election results (with some exceptions noted in specific ridings) and current polling to help voters understand what the public polls probably mean in their constituency. Read more
