In 2008, this was a close race with Liberal Ruby Dhalla winning by less than 1,000 votes. The riding could fall to the Conservatives if no action is taken by progressive voters. The NDP received more than 5,000 votes in this riding in 2008. A portion of these votes moving to the Liberals would keep this seat out of Harper's hands. It is a classic split. Re-electing Liberal Ruby Dhalla is the best way to ensure that the Conservatives don't take over Brampton-Springdale and add this seat to their quest for a Harper majority.
